V.G.C.A NEWS JANUARY '99

Monthly Meeting Date and Program

This month's membership meeting will be January 28th (fourth Thursday) at 8 PM at the NRA Headquarters.  We will stay with this 4th Thursday meeting date until next Nov./Dec. or on those months when we have shows or picnics.  The dates will be announced.  As usual, a light supper will be provided so plan to arrive at 7:30 or so.  The program this month will be presented by Carlos Davila and the subject will be Smith and Wessons.  Bring all your exotic Smiths for "show 'n' tell" and enjoy the evening.  For the benefit of our newer members, Carlos worked for FN in Belgium for several years and was involved in the development of the FN FAL Rifles.  He now works for Smith and Wesson and in charge of their export program.   It should be an interesting and educational evening.  Don't miss this one.

Dues Are Now Due And The Price Went Up

As mentioned previously, annual dues are now due and are $20.00.  Life membership is now $100.00.  Send your dues to Ed Costello at the PO Box 7039, Arlington, VA   22207-0039.  New and paid up members can get photo ID badges made at the March show.

Upcoming Show In March

The show on March 13-14 will be here before you know it.  We need to get the flyers out.  Call Jim Burgess ((703-754-7800) if you need some and take them to other gun shows, put them up on the office bulletin board, etc.  New members - we need lots of help in set up and clean up of the hall and on the security detail in checking incoming guns.  All guns must be tied and getting this done for the guns on the tables is a big job.  I am not sure who is going to be in charge of door security.  Call Gary Holderman of the Show Committee (703-754-9528) and let him know you will help out.   Safety is of paramount concern so your help is important.  The admission price to the show is now up to $5.00.  Check out our web page for updated information about the show.

Technical Assistance For M1 Or M1A Rifle Owners

I recently met a delightful gentleman who not only collects M1s of all types, but also collects the tools and gauges used in their manufacture.  If you have any M1s or M1As and you need the timing and headspace checked, call Jeff Perkins, who is in Rockville at 301-251-9426.  Jeff has some nice M1s for sale.  He has parts for M73 and M84 sniper scopes as well as a USMC Kolmorgan scope for sale.  He mentioned that he has a nice HR M1 in the 5 million range with a correct LMR barrel.  The gun is in new condition with only the customary storage dings in the stock.  It has DCM papers and is $850.00.  He also collects US sniper rifles and has some for sale.  These guns are beautiful and Jeff really knows when they are "right".

Want Ads And For Sale Items

Bill Gates, a Norva Member, has two shotguns for sale:  Krieghof 12ga. Parker Trojan Grade - a good tight gun needs stock work and re case hardening - has no rust - just wear on finish; a 12 ga. "GECO' side by side shotgun in fair shape.  All these guns will be at the show on Costello's table.  Also, I need information on a J.
