and that there has not been a meeting in November in a number of years. The
November - December meeting is always the first Thursday in December.
There has been a change in the program. The presentation on .45 pistols by Scott
Meadows has been canceled. In his place Gary James and Dan Gagliasso are coming
in from California to discuss Hollywood guns and give us a history of firearms
in the movies. Gary will talk and show a video, and Dan will take us to the Reel
Guns display in the museum and continue the presentation
Board of Directors
At the conclusion of the presentation in the museum, the VGCA business
meeting will take place in the auditorium. The Nominating Committee will present
a three-person slate, and nominations may be taken from the floor. Please
remember that if you nominate somebody from the floor, you should have verified
beforehand that the person is willing to serve if elected.
If there are nominations from the floor, then in accordance with the Bylaws
there will be a vote-by-mail election A card with the names of the nominees will
be included with the Newsletter that will be mailed in late December or early in
January 2003. Instructions for the mailing of the ballots will he included in
the Newsletter.
At the last meeting Moe Phillips spoke to those assembled and stated that he
will not be a candidate for reelection to the Board. Moe has some health
considerations and feels that he will not be able to devote the time that is
often necessary to make the VGCA the viable organization that it is. Moe has
served the VGCA in many capacities almost from its inception and should accept
plaudits from all for his devotion to the VGCA.
October Meeting
We had another great joint NRA-VGCA program. Folks, we have had some
superior motivational presentations in the past, but this one. equaled the best
we have had. Jim Dunham walked onto the stage looking like a cowboy right out of
the movies He put on quite a show with his twirling six-guns. He could make them
spin forward; backwards, and probably sideways. He talked continually as he
demonstrated the various spins and draws. He gave us a history of the Old West,
the guns of the Old West, and some great stories of both the Old West in the
movies and the movie cowboys we all tried to emulate with our cap guns when we
were kids.
A highlight of the program was when Jim invited Con Rice’s son to take part in
one of his demonstrations. It bad to do with the quickness of the draw and the
reaction time needed by the opponent. Con’s son was quicker than most of us old
folks would have been if given the chance to test our reflexes against Jim's
draw.
Secretary’s Subtleties
As always the Show and Tell portion of the meeting was outstanding, interesting,
and educational. I’m sorry to say that I misplaced my notes from the meeting and
can’t give credit where it is due. If I had not lost my notes, you would also
know the name on Con’s son, and I apologize to the young man for not being able
to put his name in print.
President’s Corner
We have bad a great year, and it is all of you who have made it so. It is time
once again to elect three members to the Board of Directors to become part of
the seven-member Executive Committee. At the December meeting Emory Hackman, who
once again is the Chairman of the Nominating Committee, in accordance with the
Bylaws will announce the slate of three names. At that time nominations may be
taken from the floor. If there are nominations from the floor, we will have a
vote-by-mail election in accordance with the Bylaws. The ballots will be mailed,
and a deadline for there being accepted will be given. The results will be
announced at the meeting in January.
Have a great Thanksgiving -- Addison
